2010 Progress Photos

The Scottsdale Model Railroad Historical Society started construction on the new layout in September of 2010. The layout is built on an open framework grid. The grid is built of quality plywood ripped into 2 1/2 inch strips. The spline that supports the roadbed is built from 3/4 inch poplar that was ripped into strips. This allows the strips to be bent and shaped into gradual curves. The spline is supported on risers that are spaced at 2 foot intervals. The spline is then sanded and cork roadbed is glued in place in preparation for the ties and rails. Below is a slideshow of the layout progress in 2010.
